ALH84001

Martian meteorite recovered in Antarctica’s Allan Hills in 1984; subject of the controversial 1996 NASA claim of possible biogenic structures.

Per src-loeb-panspermia-impact-survival-2026-03, avi-loeb cites ALH84001 as evidence for the panspermia survival pathway: the meteorite reached Earth without its interior temperature exceeding ~40 °C since ejection from Mars, leaving open the possibility that interior microbes could have survived the journey. This underpins Loeb’s “we are all Martians” hypothesis — that the Last Universal Common Ancestor arrived on Earth via Mars-origin rock ~4.2 Gya.
