Dragonfly Mission

nasa rotorcraft mission to Saturn’s moon titan, scheduled for 2027 launch (per jeffrey-kluger in src-mars-organics-fresh-clues-2026-04). Selected as the fourth New Frontiers mission. Will carry a TMAH-style wet-chemistry organic-molecule analysis package inheriting heritage from curiosity-rover’s SAM instrument (src-curiosity-mars-life-molecules-2026-04).

Titan’s surface has rivers and lakes of liquid methane and ethane and a thick organic-haze atmosphere — a prime target for prebiotic chemistry and astrobiology research. The mission’s existence as a funded program (rather than a concept paper) is a direct product of the huygens-probe’s 2005 surface landing, which converted Titan from theory into geology (src-cassini-huygens-ocean-worlds-2026-04).
