The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a NASA wide-field infrared observatory scheduled to launch in 2027. Its coronagraph instrument is designed to pioneer space-based wavefront control for direct imaging of Jupiter-sized reflected-light exoplanets — a methodology category covered in direct-imaging.

Roman is a key part of the follow-up path for the jwst exoplanet candidate around alpha-centauri-a (src-alpha-centauri-a-exoplanet-2026) and the cold gas giant epsilon-indi-ab, whose water-ice-clouds inferred from JWST mid-IR retrievals (src-jwst-ice-clouds-exoplanet-2026-04) are directly observable in reflected light. Stepping stone toward the habitable-worlds-observatory.
