Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is the USAF’s primary R&D organization, headquartered at wright-patterson-afb in Ohio. It develops advanced aircraft materials, propulsion, sensors, and directed-energy systems.
Retired Maj. Gen. william-neil-mccasland commanded AFRL before retirement c. 2013. AFRL’s Wright-Patterson home is historically central to U.S. UFO lore, including rumored crash-retrieval housing (see crash-retrieval-programs).
