Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland (USAF, ret.) is a retired U.S. Air Force general officer who commanded the air-force-research-laboratory at wright-patterson-afb before retiring c. 2013.

In early 2026, McCasland disappeared from his Albuquerque home. He had reportedly experienced “mental fog” and stepped down from groups in the days before. Authorities recovered a shirt and hiking boots but not his wallet, revolver, or backpack (src-wright-patterson-general-missing-2026-03).

Officials say there is no evidence linking his disappearance to UFO research. The coincidence nonetheless revived public speculation given Wright-Patterson’s decades-long entanglement with crash-retrieval-programs lore.
