Operation Prato (Portuguese: “Operation Plate”) was a 1977 Brazilian government investigation of UAP activity in the states of Maranhão and Pará. It is one of the most extensively documented government-sponsored UAP investigations outside the United States.
The operation documented multiple cases of UAP activity affecting local populations. Related cases involving indigenous tribes were subsequently investigated by the Brazilian Federal Police between 2013–2016. Operation Prato was referenced at the 2022 Brazilian Senate UAP hearing by researcher Rony Vernet (see src-brazil-uap-senate-hearings-2026).
