SuperCam is the multi-mode remote-sensing instrument suite on NASA’s perseverance-rover: laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), Raman spectroscopy, visible/infrared spectroscopy, color imaging, and an integrated microphone. Heritage flows from ChemCam on Curiosity. roger-wiens led instrument development at los-alamos-national-laboratory and now operates a calibration lab at purdue-university.

LIBS is the technique that first detected anomalous nickel concentrations in neretva-vallis before pixl localized the signal at finer scale; quantification depended on Purdue-built nickel calibration standards (see src-perseverance-neretva-nickel-rocks-2026-04).
