The Very Large Telescope (VLT) is the European Southern Observatory’s flagship optical/infrared facility at Paranal Observatory, Chile. It comprises four 8.2 m Unit Telescopes and four 1.8 m Auxiliary Telescopes whose light can be combined interferometrically. The VLT hosts numerous instruments relevant to exoplanet science, including espresso for radial-velocity measurements.

The VLT contributed ESPRESSO data to the 2026 confirmation of gj-887-d (src-gj-887-d-habitability-2026-03).
